Have you noticed increased hair loss, fatigue, or night sweats? While these may seem like unrelated concerns, they can all be due to a hormonal imbalance.
Hormonal imbalances tend to be prevalent in mature women. Fortunately, hormone replacement therapy can resolve these symptoms.
We offer hormone replacement therapy at Oklahoma Men’s Clinic, including hormone pills and estrogen supplement treatments. Learn more about hormone replacement therapy below.
What Is Hormone Replacement Therapy?
Hormonal imbalances are a common occurrence in women. They can develop at any age, but they become more likely as women get older.
Underlying health conditions and nutritional habits can also affect your hormone levels. When your hormones are out of balance, it can lead to a variety of symptoms and ongoing concerns.
Also known as HRT, hormone replacement therapy aims to balance hormones or resolve hormonal deficiencies. HRT works to re-balance your hormones by supplementing the hormones you are deficient in. This treatment can effectively resolve some of the most prevalent signs of a hormonal imbalance.
Symptoms of Female Hormonal Imbalance
When your hormones are imbalanced, it can lead to a number of different symptoms. In women, hormonal imbalance can present the following signs:
- Fatigue
- Infertility
- Hair loss
- Insomnia
- Low libido
- Migraines
- Weight gain
- Night sweats
- Mood swings
- Painful periods
The symptoms of hormonal imbalance can develop gradually or pop up suddenly and severely. When they are due to underlying health concerns, the onset may be more rapid than hormonal issues that develop with age.
How HRT Works
The purpose of hormone replacement therapy is to supplement the hormones you are deficient in to restore balance. HRT can be delivered in several ways, including injections, tablets, or pills. One type of hormonal therapy is female pellet therapy.
Female pellet therapy is a type of HRT that uses custom-made hormone pellets to resolve deficiencies and balance your hormones.
For pellet therapy, our team of professionals assesses your hormone levels to determine exactly what you need to restore balance. We then create an individualized pellet to provide you with the correct dosage of estrogen, testosterone, or progesterone.
We insert this pellet beneath your skin, usually in the hip area, by making a small incision. You will not be under anesthesia for this process, and we will administer a local anesthetic beforehand. The entire process takes about 30 minutes to complete.
Over the next three months, your pellet will slowly release the appropriate hormones into your bloodstream to get your levels back on track.
Common Questions About Hormone Replacement Therapy
If you are interested in hormone replacement therapy, you might have some questions. This is not uncommon for new patients who have never received HRT. Learn more about HRT by taking a look at the most frequently asked questions that clients ask.
Do I Qualify for HRT?
You can find out whether HRT is right for you by scheduling a consultation at our hormone therapy clinic.
During your consultation, a member of our team will evaluate your symptoms, medical history, and more to determine whether hormone replacement therapy is the best course of action for you. From there, we will develop a unique treatment plan that meets your needs.
Are There Any Adverse Effects from HRT?
Most people have no adverse effects from their hormone replacement therapy. However, some women may experience cramping, nausea, and vomiting in the days following their pellet insertion. These side effects typically resolve over time as your body adjusts to the hormones being released by the pellet.
Will I Feel the Hormone Pellet Under My Skin?
The female hormone pellet is about the same size as a grain of rice. While you may feel a sensation around the insertion area for a few days after your procedure, that is typically due to the incision, not the pellet. Most patients find that the pellet is too small to feel and they forget it is even there within days of their procedure.
What Is Recovery Like After Pellet Insertion?
Most people are able to return to their normal activities after having their hormone pellets inserted. For the first 24 hours, we recommend that you avoid taking a shower. Further, you must avoid taking a bath, swimming, or submerging the skin in water for about three days.
You should also avoid lower-body workouts for several days after treatment, as this can alter the position of the pellet. About one week after insertion, you can resume all of your normal activities.
When Will I See Results?
Some patients start seeing results from their hormone therapy within days of pellet insertion. For most patients, it will take several weeks to start seeing a significant resolution of symptoms.
Will I Stay on HRT Forever?
One of the most common concerns among patients is how long they will need to remain on hormone replacement therapy. The reality is that it varies from person to person. Some people only require HRT for a short time, while others remain on hormone therapy for the long term.
The duration of your treatment will depend on your symptoms and how much resolution your experience from treatment.
